Over the past couple years, the Acushnet Library was in the process of moving to a new location. What's really cool to me is that many of my students helped with the construction of it through our school's vocational program. We stopped by last night to check it out!
The children's area is directly off the main entrance and it's just so clean and beautiful.
The kids especially loved the train table and coloring pages that were out for them. I loved the comfy couch that I could relax on while they played quietly.
... what, you mean, you don't wear you pajamas to the library?
Seeing the bags of books on tapes just made me smile. It brings back so many memories and is a great way to encourage reading!
Additionally there is a huge selection of children's DVDs. There were two other areas of movies, including the new movies they have received, and the "story movies", like Chicka Chicka Boom Boom...
Both kids were obsessed with this little Diego game. This computer was set up just for the game and the other computer that accessed the databases was actually at a level too high for them, which, as a mom is great, because it's one less thing for them to try and touch! :)

And how amazing is this donor plaque? Emmalee actually tried to grab one, thinking they were real books!
Another amazing thing "hidden" in the library is the Old Glory Box. As a life long American Legion Auxiliary member, thanks Nannie!, it always hurts my heart to see tattered flags attached to trucks or flags being flown in the rain... The library offers a deposit for worn and tattered flags and the local Boy Scout Troop will properly dispose of them.
There's also a large conference room off to the side of the building...
And, my most favorite part of the new library is the outdoor reading deck. I can picture packing up my kids and some snacks, heading to the library and grabbing some books, and then heading out to the deck to relax in the sun.
We've always been big fans of books and the library but this new library is exactly what we wanted in a library! It's clean and spacious, bright and engaging, and so convenient to go to!
The library is located at 232 Middle Road Acushnet, MA 02743 and the library's hours are:
Monday 10-8
Tuesday 1-8
Wednesday 10-8
Thursday 1-8
Saturday 9-3
You can find more information on their website and Facebook Page.
There are lots of great events happening in May so hopefully we'll see you there!
